The members of the Canaan Police Department express their deepest regrets to all those lost in the September 11th attack on the United States of America. Our prayers are with those victims, families of victims, our fallen comrades, and our president as we enter a new chapter in the history of our great Nation.
Canaan is a town of approximately 3,500 of people and is growing rapidly. In the summer, our population climbs as there are many resort and summer residences in Town. The Police Department’s staff includes 3 full-time Officers, 6 part-time Officers, and an administrative secretary. Canaan is bordered by the towns of Grafton, Orange, Enfield and Dorchester, and the cities of Lebanon and Hanover. We are located in the County of Grafton. Our District Court is in Lebanon and located at 38 Centerra Park. The Grafton County Superior Court is in Haverhill, New Hampshire. On January 27th, the Canaan Police Department ceased operations at our old location and moved into our new Headquarters on Dorchester Road.
Our mission is to serve humankind; safeguard lives and property; protect the innocent against deception, and the weak against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful against violence and disorder; and to respect the Constitutional Rights of all persons to liberty, equality, and justice.
Our Police Officers shall recognize the badge of their office as a symbol of public faith, and accept it as a public trust to be held so long as they are true to the ethics of police service. They shall constantly strive to achieve those objectives and ideals, dedicating themselves to their chosen profession law enforcement.
